Venezuela got its name from the early explorers who landed on its coast and found the area near the Sinamaica lagoon reminding them of Venice hence they named it “Little Venice” which in Spanish translates into Venezuela. With unsurpassable options available to enjoy ranging from its beaches, mountains, plains and nature, there is enough for everyone to choose. The country is full of areas teeming with its rich culture, heritage and outdoor pursuits.

Columbus was the first European to set foot in this country followed by a long tenure of rule under the Spaniards who landed here in the 1500’s. Venezuela finally won its independence in the year 1821. But it was not to enjoy peace and tranquility as it had desired. Marred by frequent dictator rulers, civil wars, coups and financial fallouts it was turbulent times for the country. It has only been since some time back with their constitution being re-written under the present president’s rule that law and order has been restored and life is back to normal.

With beautiful historical buildings, exotic monuments and landscapes scattered all around the country it creates a mesmerizing trail to locate and discover these treasures. The most unique feature located in this country is the Angel falls which is the highest waterfall in the world and is located in the Guiana Highlands.

With mesmerizing jungles, mountains and landscapes surrounding this region it is a treat to the eyes not worth missing. Also located here is the region of Gran Sabana which is famous for its flat top mountains called as “Tepuy”. Located at an altitude of about 5000 metres above sea level is located the “Pico Bolivar” which is the highest point in Venezuela and the top is accessible by a cable car. The perfect place for art connoisseurs would definitely be the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo located in the capital city of Caracas.

This renowned museum is home to some fantastic art pieces done by the likes of Piccaso, Matisse, Joan Miro and others. The city of Caracas is divided into the old and new sections and most of its monuments here in Caracas revolve around Bolivar. With the Plaza Bolivar located in the city centre there is also present the Cathedral housing the Bolivar families chapel and the Museo Bolivariano which has memoirs of the weapons and portraits dating back to the independence movement.

The Iglesia de San Francisco is Bolivars final resting place and its gilded altarpieces are truly a work of art. For adventure seekers the experience of sliding down the sand hills of the Coro Dunes is simply fabulous. The coastal island of Isla de Margarita attached to Venezuela is one of the most famous islands in this country where the tourists cannot seem to get enough of its clear blue skies, pristine waters and white sandy beaches.

Get a chance to view the anaconda’s, wildcats and their likes in the region of Los Llanos. The Orinoco delta provides an incredible display of rainforests, mangroves which would sooth the eyes of all eco-tourists visiting Venezuela.

While in Venezuela tourists are in paradise. The mix of modernity with its rich cultural past is so gentle and natural that one has to be a witness to it to really understand what this country is really all about.
