The Death Valley National Park is truly a destination of extremes. A superlative desert located in California in the Mojave Desert comprises of incredible desert scenery, untouched wilderness, rare wildlife and sites of historical importance. Truly, this national park is a place of legend and harsh extremes. Containing within its boundary, the Death Valley National Park has the lowest, driest and hottest point in the entire North America making it a unique destination.

This desert is home to nature’s bounty in the form of amazing sand dunes, snow caped mountains along with deep canyons and gorges and endless miles of stony landscape. Truly is a work of art.

The valley in true sense is a long and a low depression amongst the barren desert plains and rocky ridges neat the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Apart from natural beauty the national Park is also home to several historical relics which provide an insight to the harsh living conditions of the early settlers who inhabited the park. These relics in the form of metal and borax mine ruins, ghost towns and other remains provide information of times which have passed be in this area.

Tourist Locations:

Though this national park is open throughout the year the Death Valley National Park is generally considered as a winter park characterized by mild tolerable winters. There are several attractions located within this natural wilderness. One can start his trip by visiting the rock salt landscape of the Harmony Borax works. The early Death Valley settlers considered Borax as white gold due to its profitable commercial significance. A short trail of sign boards leads one into the now ruins of the borax mines which were working till the early 1928’s. it was not only the process of mining borax which was significant but even the transport of the mined borax was incredible.

20 mule teams were put into task to carry the mined borax from the mines to the rail coaches stationed at the railway station at Mojave. Scotty’s castle is undoubtly the most visited location by the travelers visiting the national park. The amazing construction of the castle together with its architecture, Spanish tiles and lavish furnishing captivates everyone visiting it. Making the castle all the more special are the park rangers moving about in the castle dressed in 1930’s period costumes. Located near the castle is the Ubehebe crater. The crater in reality is an explosion crater created as a result of the steam formed when hot magma met with the ground water. This steam exploded out resulting in the formation of this crater. Located 282 feet below sea level is Badwater which has the distinction of being the lowest point in the northern hemisphere.

Another must visit location here is the Artists palette which in reality is an incredible view of splendid colors which seem to be splashed on the rocks all around this point. Also a photographer’s point is the Zabriskie Point providing flawless views of the hills of the Golden canyon before sunrise. Dante’s View is one more such location which allows one to capture the flawless beauty of the Death Valley. The incredibly rare Salt Creek Pupfish which exists nowhere else in the world can be viewed here in the Salt creek.

Incredible paranomic views nestled between historic ruins is what the ominous sounding Death Valley National park is all about. Visit it to experience it..
