davos-zurichProviding residence to close about 15,000 inhabitants by the Landwasser river is the beautiful and romantic winter resort destination of Davos. Tucked in the midst of the least accessible of all Swiss cantons in Graubunden, Davos is the perfect amalgamation of snow clad mountains and endless stretches of green valley’s.

Davos in initial days earned world wide acclaim as a prominent health resort but it was skiing which finally made this place famous as it is now. For tourists staying in Davos there are free bus services available for them to help ferry them to the ski lift points. This Swiss valley destination has that special spark of fun and excitement which can enchant anyone visiting it.

Reaching There:

The Airport at Zurich is the nearest accessible airport to reach Davos and is about 100 miles away. Davos can also be approached via the rail route with Davos Platz and Davos Dorf being the nearest railway stations.

Skiing Locations:

From amateurs to professionals of varying degree’s everyone in Davos will find for themselves the perfect slope to ski on. The best season to hit the slopes is between mid November and mid April. With the lower runs of the slopes providing the steepest and the most demanding of all skiing rides there are in all five skiing areas differentiated by the lifts.

The skiing area most popular with the tourists is Parsenn which however can only be navigated in times of extensive snow cover. Touted to be the skate boarders favourite is the skiing are of Jacobshorn which harbors an obstacle park within its perimeter thus adding to the difficulty level. With a majority of skiers arriving here belong to the professional sect, Davos is not the most ideal place for people wanting to learn skiing, but still there are some skiing schools offering guidance to children of a certain age group.

Activities beyond the Slopes:

In Davos there is plenty of activity happening beyond the slopes too. One has the opportunity to indulge in winter treks and enjoy the cross country trails. Horse riding, ice skating, ice hockey, horse sledge rides are some other off slope activities which find many takers for themselves. After a long tiring day on the slopes which would have left your muscles worked out there is relief here in the form of some exotic spa treatments at various health spa centre’s opened all around the resort town. Promenade is the main thoroughfare of this town and its fashionably upmarket shops and boutiques makes this the retail hub of Davos.

Nightlife and Food:

Party lovers are usually seen thronging the Davos Platz area which has a fair share of the area’s most chic nightclubs, pubs and bars. These destinations provide the travelers with a night long session of music, dance and drinks. The Cabanna club in Hotel Europe is where die hard disco lovers head to. Tourists can satisfy their culinary trysts at any of the numerous eating joints present here. Restaurant Panaroma, Hotel Ochsen’s Stubli, Hotel Dischma are some of the options awailable to try out world famous delicacies.
